The CEO of Essential Christian, which resources and inspires Christians through events such as Spring Harvest, shares the songs he is currently enjoying.
Through our lives, songs travel with us. A song from years ago plays on the radio and all the emotions and memories flood back. Songs can also be a prophetic signpost for the future, reminding us of who is in control.
‘Ruins’ - Maverick City Music
Through lockdown and planning the theme for Spring Harvest 2022, this became a song I went to whenever a few spare minutes came at the end of a video call. You’ll be caught up in this one: listen to it three times back to back and then you’ll be singing it all day, especially that chorus: ‘You rebuild / You restore / All that’s broken’.
‘Way maker’ - Sinach
Worship from around the world and songs from the nations were key in this year’s online event. ‘Way maker’ has helped refocus us to see what God is doing all around the world. We invited Sinach to speak at Spring Harvest Home – our online gathering – and she was interviewed by Muyiwa Olarewaju, OBE. We were also led by worship leaders from Holland, the UK, France and India. Worship from around the world brought different languages and styles but was filled with the same Holy Spirit. Even though we were on our familiar screens, they disappeared as we worshipped the Lord.
‘History maker’ - Delirious?
With playlists comes the ‘backlist’! These are the songs that we grew up with and inspired us to better serve the Lord. This song from 1996 sparked a new generation to stand and make a promise to live for Jesus. This was more than a song, but it took a while for us to realise that history is legacy – and that takes a while to build. So today, here we are, remembering the songs of our youth while embracing the worship anthems from around the world that lead us ahead. Twenty-five years later, we still have a chance to make history together.
