Lifewords new resource Little Book of Advent takes the reader on a journey of reflection and waiting, encouraging individuals, groups and congregations to engage with the season of Advent and what it means to wait and to look forwards to the arrival of the hope promised in the Bible.
With supporting online material, the resource is designed to help churches and congregations share the season and story together, and with their community. Join the Advent/ure with your church, your family, a small group, or make some time for yourself in the busyness of the Christmas season.
“Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.”
Luke 1:78-79 talks of waiting and expectation, of the light about to dawn, of the darkness breaking. For centuries, the prophets foretold the Messiah’s arrival, and now the wait is nearly over. Wait in expectation; mark the beginning of the new and the end of the old; and carry Advent with you until the next time … and the next time … and the next.
Both in narrative and design, Little Book of Advent starts in darkness and builds towards light, reflecting a sense of flickering comfort and hope in what has been fulfilled, held in tension with the reality that we are still waiting – but this time for Jesus to come again.
Helen, from St Pauls Church, Macclesfield, says: “Advent and Christmas bring the highest attendance in church, and we seize the opportunity to let everybody leave with a Lifewords booklet as a memento of their visit. The great thing about giving a booklet is that whenever the person finds themselves on their own, they have something they can hold in their hands – support and hope.”
Easy to read and easy to share, Little Book of Advent is the first seasonal title in Lifewords’ popular Little Book series. The series now includes: “Little Books of” Advent, Joy, Chaos, Faith, Help, Jesus, and Prayer.
The Little Brick of Little Books provides a boxed collection of the Little Books which can be used and shared in schools, churches, prisons, youth groups, debt centres, hospital chaplaincies, and more. The Little Brick of Little Books features seven copies of each of the seven titles, 49 Little Books in total.
Like all Lifewords resources, Little Book of Advent is freely available, but donations are both appreciated and encouraged. The Little Brick is available for a minimum £25 donation.
