The Christmas season is a time of joy and celebration, but it can also overwhelm and bring a level of stress.
At Compassion, when we think of the busyness of Christmas, we think of our local church partners who are preparing Christmas outreach celebrations! More than 2.3 million children across 29 countries will be attending beautiful Christmas services and parties – helping children and their families celebrate Christ’s birth with presents, a meal and games!
Here are some tips to help you maintain peace and keep Christ at the centre of your celebrations.
1. Create Quiet Time for Reflection
Amidst the busy preparations, set aside a few minutes each day for prayer and reflection. This quiet time can help you reconnect with the true meaning of Christmas and find inner peace. YouVersion is full of (festive) plans to help you reconnect with the Prince of Peace himself this Christmas. You can also check out the Compassion advent devotional, available now!
2. Meaningful Gift-Giving
Christmas can be so expensive! But my favourite gifts of all-time have been things that reflect the true spirit of Christmas, given from the heart. Homemade gifts, a lovingly crafted bake, charitable donations in someone’s name, or a prayer journal that encourages spiritual growth. Such gifts are often treasured more than another scarf or pair of socks!
3. Memory-Maximising Celebrations
My favourite Christmas memories involve my loved ones and spending quality time together. Bring joy and togetherness this Christmas with carolling, watching Christmas movies, or baking cookies together. 4. Writing a Christmas Greeting to Loved Ones
A heartfelt Christmas greeting can brighten someone’s day and remind them of your love and care. Talented illustrator Miriam Latimer has created some downloadable festive designs to get you in the Christmas spirit. This is a great time of year to share memories, express your gratitude for someone and encourage them with a favourite Christmas Bible verse. You can find some wonderful verses on our blog.
5. Pop-up Nativity
If you’ve got some creative children in your life, why not help them make this beautiful Nativity pop-up scene and share a small piece of the Christmas story every day!
May your celebrations be filled with peace, joy, love, and the presence of Christ.
Merry Christmas,
From Corinna (busy mum of two) and everyone at Compassion UK
