US EVANGELICAL LUTHERANS ELECT FEMALE HEAD
Bishop Elizabeth Eaton has been elected the first woman presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a denomination with 4 million members and 10,000 congregations.
CSM CHANGES NAME
The Christian Socialist Movement (CSM) membership has voted to change the organisation’s name to Christians on the Left, after a long consultation process. The group will retain socialist values.
ELAINE STORKEY LEAVES TEARFUND
Speaker, theologian and Christian justice campaigner, Dr Elaine Storkey is standing down as Tearfund president in Septemberafter 16 years in office. Tearfund has not appointed a new president.
