Here’s what the Premier Christianity team are enjoying this month

Downtime-May-24

Voices of Fire

The best show on Netflix bar none. Your jaw will be on the floor as Bishop Ezekiel Williams holds auditions to build the greatest gospel choir the world has ever seen. These people can sing! The bishop’s nephew happens to be Pharrell, who pops up occasionally to judge the contestants. But much more importantly, God is all over this docuseries – not just in the music, but in the lives of these singers, many of whom have remarkable testimonies to share. You might need your tissues for this one…

Unreasonable Hospitality - Will Guidara

Will Guidara’s account of working in the hospitality industry, and how Eleven Madison Park won the coveted best restaurant in the world award is inspirational. This readable book has a gem of wisdom on every page. It isn’t faith-based, but there’s much that churches and Christians can learn about making someone’s day, leading well and creating a culture that allows everyone to thrive. Highly recommended!

Pilgrimage

The latest series of Pilgrimage sees seven celebrities take on the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way. Former The Traitors winner and Catholic, Amanda Lovett, joins naturalist Michaela Strachan, lapsed Muslim comedian Eshaan Akbar, Christine McGuinness, Spencer Matthews, Tom Rosenthal and Sonali Shah to walk 133 miles from Holywell to Bardsey Island, taking in various sacred sites. Spoiler alert: no one finds Jesus, but it’s still worth a watch for the beautiful scenery, profound conversations and funny moments.

Watch it on BBC Two or BBC iPlayer
