Gary and Tracy Richardson joined Rev Kate Bottley in the prearranged dance at St Mary’s and St Martin’s Church in Blyth, Nottinghamshire.
Footage was posted on YouTube resulting in more than 300,000 hits. Most national media outlets in the UK ran positive stories and the newlyweds are now planning to start attending church.
Bottley told Christianity magazine, ‘We have a biblical precedent for dancing for joy. This for me is about making Jesus famous. I was hoping to change a few perceptions. I had one clergy member email me that someone had seen it online on Saturday night and on Sunday morning had come to church and met their vicar. That’s so precious. I’ll be a fool for Jesus any day if it means that people come to know him.’
