Having been ‘the voice of Soul Survivor’ for many years, worship leader Beth Croft has produced her first solo album.
Many of her songs are well known and sung in churches across the world, so she has already made her mark as a gifted songwriter. Many of the tracks combine contemporary reflections on scripture with a modern electro pop style.
The album sits alongside the live Soul Survivor albums; however, a number of Croft’s songs – such as ‘Lectio Divina’ and ‘Make the World Dance’ – stylistically go a step beyond the live recordings many of us are used to.
Having said that, the opening track ‘Love Takes Over’ is an instant throwback to the Soul Survivor festival atmosphere. Also included in the album
are familiar tracks ‘Arms of Grace’ and ‘Kingdom Come’, which are already popular congregational songs.
At times this album feels rushed. Despite this, Croft has shown that she has the lyrical and musical skill to construct an exciting and energetic album. LS
