Premier Praise’s Craig Wakeling is about to become the eyes and ears of Premier listeners, embarking on an amazing journey to Pajule, Uganda. This is the place where Premier readers and listeners are empowering children through Chosen Child Sponsorship – as well as those wonderful school desks you all helped fund.
Before heading out, Craig stopped by to answer a few questions about his upcoming trip…
Hi Craig. Thanks for taking time to speak to us. Have you been to Uganda before and, if not, what are you expecting it to be like?
I have never been to Uganda before. My only experience of Africa is Egypt where my wife and I had our honeymoon. I am looking forward to a different part of the continent.
What are you excited about?
Having worked with World Vision on radio appeals with Premier Praise in the past, I am excited to see the how the support given by listeners is supporting the local community – both with Chosen and a school desk appeal that we did.
What are you nervous about?
Well, naturally, being thousands of miles from home, in an unfamiliar surrounding and away from normal comforts – there is some nervousness. Particularly about making sure that I respect local norms and cultures – I’m British, wouldn’t want to offend. But I am praying and confident that being with the very experienced World Vision team who are there all the time, God will look after me.
Aside from essentials, what do you plan on taking with you?
A handheld fan – I’m told it’s going to be hot in the day – and a blanket. My understanding is that being so close to the equator, it gets cold at night.
What do you think you’ll miss the most when you’re there?
Obviously, my family… but a close second will be the coffee machine in my kitchen.
What do you want to be able to share with your radio listeners when you get back?
I would like them to know what their kind sponsorship and donations are going to. Not just the practical things, but the things you can’t measure with money – the hope that children have knowing that someone in another country loves them enough to support them. To hear how they come to know God and rely on his love.
How can we pray for you?
That I will know and trust God’s protection whilst I am there… and good mobile signal.
Thanks, Craig, for sharing your thoughts with us. We look forward to hearing all about the trip on your Premier Praise breakfast show
